Our  good friends over at environmentally-friendly fashion house C. Marchuska launched an eco-friendly line of hunter scarves this spring. The pluurl team built a custom minisite for C. Mar called Play Cool Stay Hot, featuring user-generated pictures and cool videos of some of New York City’s finest rocking these dope scarves. Photo uploads work from mobile devices so if you see someone wearing a cool … or hot… scarf, snap a picture (trick) and send it on over!

With infectious synth beats and wordplay that would make an English professor blush, Kinetics and One Love are bringing hip hop back to its roots: hidden coffee shops, steamy dance floors, and low-key house parties. From the high-energy “Rings of Saturn” to the mellow, late-night anthem “Hemlock,” Kinetics have a versatile sound and a fan base that has expanded well beyond their fraternity bedroom/studio in Ithaca, NY.

Kinetics chose pluURL to build their website and craft their social media strategy. Kineticsmusic.com features a cutting edge model view controller (MVC) platform, which delivers a sleek user experience. The website integrates the custom Vokoder music player and it cleanly presents the Facebook fan page and Twitter updates in one view. pluURL will continue to develop Kinetics’ brand awareness, reaching out to the music blogosphere and promoting online community development around the group’s music.

Kinetics and One Love are currently negotiating a songwriting deal with Warner Music Group and have sold tracks to Atlantic tracks. The duo has released a full length album, Fading Back to Normal and an E.P., which are both available for free on their site. Where to begin? Quit your job, read the Four Hour Work Week, then what? There’s a ton to figure out and we are certainly in the thick of it getting pluURL off the ground.

Today, Yaw and I ventured to the local Chase bank in business casual, prepared with our letter of incorporation, Employee ID Number, and eager to open a small business account. The process was pretty quick and it was made more entertaining by the fact that our consultant was in the same fraternity as us. He didn’t cook our numbers when we asked him to file our small business loan application, but he did longingly reflect on his college days and trips to Vegas (pre-marriage).

However, one important thing he relayed to us was just how unpredictable securing a small business loan can be. He explained that a small business loan (or a line of credit) is loosely tied to an individual’s credit history … but that’s about it. Startup costs, projected expenses and monthly income … just plug in the numbers click send and pray.

As we grow our business, it’s a increasingly clear that a loan is essential to bring people on full time. From organizing client calls to picking up last-minute design and development work – there’s a lot that needs to get done and two full timers can only handle so much.

A loan won’t necessarily make money fall from trees but it will certainly bring us one step closer to making processes more efficient.
